Walter C. Young

Walter C. "Walt" Young (born March 2, 1923) is an American educator and politician.

Young was born in New York City. He was a founding member of Pembroke Pines, Florida and the state representative for Broward County for 20 years. He was elected to the state House in 1972 and quickly made his mark on the state’s education industry. He was known in the 1980s as Florida's "Mr. Education."

Due to his efforts for the city of Pembroke Pines, the community named its middle school after him;[1] Walter C. Young Middle School and Resource Center opened its doors in early 1991. After retiring from politics in 1992 he now is a lobbyist for the Florida branch of the AARP Florida branch and was even offered a chairmanship post in 1998.
